What is the Honors Program?

The Honors Program is designed to provide students with a supportive learning community of faculty and peers who share a love of knowledge and a commitment to academic excellence. Honors students take honors G.E. courses together in the freshman year. These courses give students an integrated series of G.E. classes with small class size and dedicated faculty. Honors students go on fieldtrips to plays and museums, study together in the Honors Lounge and computer lab, learn leadership skills and participate in community service projects. They receive Honors designation on their college transcripts and have priority at registration for classes.



Who May Apply?
  1. Incoming freshman with SAT scores of 1100 &/or ACT scores of 26 and a GPA of at least 3.5.
  2. Transfer students with an overall GPA of 3.5.
  3. Continuing students with an overall GPA of 3.5.
  4. Faculty-sponsored students with academic potential.



How to Apply?

Students must submit the following documents:
  1. Honors Program Application Form.
  2. An essay stating your reasons for enrollment in the program.
  3. A letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor who is familiar with your academic achievements.



What Is The Selection Process?

Members of the Honors Program are selected by the Director and Honors Program Committee. Freshmen or transfer student applicants must first be accepted as university students; this is a separate procedure controlled and administered by the Admissions Office.



What Are The Program Requirements?

Students must maintain an overall 3.3 GPA to remain in good standing.

Incoming Freshmen: 38 units over 4 years, to include Language and Meaning and the Honors Colloquium in the freshman year; the Honors Seminar in the sophomore year; a senior project in a department and sixteen additional units, at least eight in upper-devision, from other honors designated offerings.

Entering Sophomores and Transfer Students: 23 units, to include the Honors Seminar; a senior project in a department and sixteen additional units, at least eight in upper-devision, from other honors designated offerings.

Entering Juniors and Transfer Students: 15 units, to include the Honors Seminar; a senior project in a department and eight additional upper-division units from other honors designated offerings.
