The Student Assistance in Learning (SAIL) program is a federally-funded TRiO Student Support Services project which has served nearly 3000 students at Cal State San Bernardino since 1981. The federal TRiO programs began with passage of the Educational Opportunity Act of 1964. They include outreach programs designed to assist low-income, first-generation and disabled students as they proceed through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs. The specific goal of Student Support Services programs like SAIL is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of targeted students at the undergraduate level.

How
Can I Become a SAIL Participant?
The open enrollment period is from September 1 through December 1. After that time, the only new participants admitted are eligible students who enroll in a SAIL adjunct or reading class in Winter Quarter or Spring Quarter.
Interested students must come to the SAIL office (UH-386) to fill out a Student Eligibility Application (SEA) form and to schedule an appointment for a required program orientation.
Once eligibility is established, students may choose to participate in the program until they graduate; however, they must complete an updated application form annually if they wish to continue to receive program services.
To maintain active status in the SAIL program, a minimum of two contacts per quarter is required, one of which is a mandatory one-on-one appointment with a SAIL counselor. Students who fail to meet the participation requirements will be dropped from the program.
